Frequently Asked Questions
-
Who is an 18 cm futon mattress suitable for?
-
An 18 cm futon mattress is a good choice for people looking for a dedicated mattress for regular bedroom use. It offers a more substantial feel than thinner 8 cm or 14 cm models and is available in different constructions to suit varying firmness preferences. The best choice will depend on body weight, sleeping position, and whether you prefer a more stable or more responsive surface.
-
What type of base is suitable for an 18 cm futon?
-
An 18 cm futon should be used on a stable, supportive, and ventilated base. Closely spaced wooden slats are a suitable option because they provide even support while allowing airflow underneath. A suitable tatami setup can also work well. Permanently placing the mattress directly on an unventilated floor is not recommended.
-
What materials are used in 18 cm futon mattresses?
-
FutonLove 18 cm Medium mattresses are available in several constructions. Depending on the model, they may include cotton batting, latex, or coconut fibre. Cotton creates a more traditional, grounded feel, latex adds responsiveness, and coconut fibre increases rigidity. The exact composition should always be checked on the individual product page.
-
How should I care for an 18 cm futon mattress?
-
Regular airing and turning help the mattress wear more evenly. Rotate it from head to foot and turn it top to bottom periodically according to the product care instructions. Medium mattresses do not need to be rolled. Low-power vacuuming is recommended, and the mattress should be kept dry with sufficient airflow underneath.
-
Is an 18 cm futon difficult to move?
-
An 18 cm mattress is generally heavier and less flexible than thinner futon models, especially in larger sizes. It is designed mainly for stationary bedroom use rather than frequent repositioning. When moving a larger double mattress, having a second person assist can make handling easier.
-
How is an 18 cm futon different from thinner models?
-
The main difference is its thicker, more bedroom-oriented construction. Compared with 8 cm Travel or 14 cm Slim models, an 18 cm Medium futon offers a more substantial sleeping surface and is intended primarily for regular use on a bed frame or tatami base. It is also less suitable for frequent folding, rolling, or sofa configurations.
